Life Well Spent
“As a well spent day brings happy sleep, so a life well spent brings happy death..” —Leonardo da Vinci
See You Next Year: Well, one more end of the world prediction has come and gone and I am glad to report that we are still here. Some continue to quote Revelations or Nostradamus and point at bad weather and bad news stories as sure signs that the end is near. My response: so be it. Get over it and get on with your lives. We are all going to die … eventually. There is a spanish saying, “Cuando te toca, ni aunque te quites… Y cuando no, ni aunque te pongas”. To paraphase, “when it is your time, even if you try to avoid it .. And when it is not, even when you seek it out”. The moral of the story is to live your life and stop worrying about your death or the end of the world. I predict at least one of us will be here next year to hear more crazy stories of Planet X and how it is aimed right at planet Earth. To all my Trekkie friends, “Live long and prosper”.
Terrific Father’s Day Weekend: I am the proud father of four great boys who make me so glad the world did not end in May. Danny and Cristian played in a baseball tournament on Saturday and had an amazing come from behind victory. They honored me with a photo of the team to celebrate Father’s day. Meanwhile, I see the oldest, Ramon, growing every day into a good and decent young man. Jimmy wants so much to be like his older brothers and he insists on doing so much by himself. Being the nerdy son of a computer programmer, I got extreme joy from updating and improving the wireless network in our house. I spent hours upgrading our security settings, improving the signal strength and figuring out how to connect my Ubuntu Mini to my Netgear access point. Sunday, I even found time to grill up some fajita meat with some sausage links. In other words, I focussed on a making this weekend just one part of a “life well spent”.
